SOME GOOD WOOD: SHARING MY FAVOURITE FRAGRANCES + GIVEAWAY!

I woke up this morning feeling really out of it. Our daughter has been down with a flu from hell for the last four weeks and we’ve barely gotten any sleep the last two nights. Last night was particularly bad because she was coughing her guts out and at some point she looked at me, crying, and said “Mommy, help me”. I almost started crying. Last week, she woke up puking, with the runs. In the middle of the night, as my own tummy was also waging war against me. Nothing prepared me for this level of adulting. Parenting is harder than people make it seem online. It’s an almost constant state of fear and worry; of wondering how you can protect your kid while allowing them to experience life abundantly; of trying to figure out how to not lose your shit while fighting overwhelming feelings of frustration and questioning your abilities as a parent.

As I’m writing this, I can hear Gong in the kitchen lecturing the nanny in that way only toddlers can – mid-cough – on her use of grammar. She just asked her: “Do you take a bite of milk, or a sip? Then why are you telling me to take a bite?”

I’m seated on the couch, fresh from a very long, hot shower after yet another trip to the clinic and dealing with the extreme sport that is Mombasa Road these days. I’m in my most comfortable lounge wear – cotton shorts, cotton tee, the husband’s socks and an old sweater I stole from a friend almost two years ago. I’m burning some lavender essential oil in a clay diffuser to calm me down after a tiring day. I smell good. I feel good.

I don’t know what it is about being clean and wearing perfume that makes me feel like I’m in control of at least one thing in my life. In fact, I’ve found that my commitment to that is directly proportional to how not in control I am in other areas of my life. Got a ton of emails to get through? Take a long shower first and tackle them while smelling like the money you want to make. Winding down after a long day? Take another long hot shower and get into bed smelling like the dreams you’re manifesting for yourself. It’s basically science.

So here’s a round-up of my favourite scents of the moment, in no particular order. Disclaimer: I’m no expert at describing fragrances and listing their top, middle and bottom notes, classifying them and what not. I know I’m definitely more of a woody, oriental, unisex fragrance kind of girl. I also know that I like what I like – and I buy scents based on what they remind me of, the feelings they evoke, not hype.

  • White Tea, Mandarin Blossom, by Elizabeth Arden – Possibly the most affordable fragrance in my small collection right now, and the only citrusy, super feminine one. She’s non-fussy, easy to wear, is good value for money and smells like she would cost more. I love wearing her to bed on warm evenings.
  • Noir pour Femme, by Tom Ford – I’ll be honest: I love Tom Ford. Have you seen his suits? They whisper sex appeal in a low, dangerous voice. Quiet confidence; alpha, but not toxic. It is unfortunate that Mr. Thomas Carlyle Ford’s fragrances do not love me as much as I love them. I feel like they just don’t smell as good on me, and this is the only one that works for me. So I guess I shouldn’t list it among my favourites – but this is Tom Ford so he gets a pass. Plus that bottle is sexy as hell. You can never go wrong with black and gold.
  • Nomade Absolu de Parfum, by Chloé – bought her on a whim after seeing the leather tassel on her neck and she did not disappoint (unlike her sister, Nomade Eau de Toilette). She reminds me of a confident woman who’s as comfortable in the boardroom in her tight pencil skirt, high heels (kitten heels do not apply here) and red lip as she is in jeans and a white tee kicking it with the boys. She oozes sex appeal and knows how to use it but is not one to allow herself to play damsel in distress – unless of course it suits her.
  • Bottega Veneta, by Bottega Veneta – this one; she inducted me into the world of soft unisex fragrances. I think it was the leather. I’m a big leather lover, no surprises here, and at this point I’m basically willing to try anything with a leather note in it. She smells like understated luxury. Like old money and good upbringing with a level head, so you’d never know just how much she’s worth because she’s not your average Social House poser. I could wear her every day.
  • Tuxedo, by Yves Saint Laurent – been wearing this for about one-and-a-half years now and I can’t get over her. First smelled her on a guy friend and phew! I looked for her for months, only eventually getting my first bottle from a friend when she travelled to Paris. Tuxedo took my breath away and introduced me to the YSL collection of luxury fragrances, Le Vestiaire des Parfums. She’s unisex but leans more on the masculine end of the spectrum, and she’ll definitely get you noticed. She’s the woman at the jazz bar drinking a fine whiskey and smoking a cigar. She doesn’t paint flowers on her nails or carry mini handbags. Or wear neon. She is not cutesy. Her lipstick is always matte, it never moves, ergo she does not eat chicken wings in public. Try her if you want to leave an impression.
  • Cuir, by Yves Saint Laurent – listen, I’ve come a long way from wearing Black Opium and her sister Mon Paris, though I still have a little bit of the latter, which I allow Gong to wear once in a while. Ms. Cuir (“leather” in French), from YSL’s Le Vestiaire des Parfums Collection de Nuit – a sub-collection of Le Vestiaire des Parfums – is not juvenile. She’s a bad bitch. She is not excitable. She doesn’t scream “that’s my jam!” in the club. She probably doesn’t dance. She prefers to people watch – it’s far more interesting than sweating and bumping bodies anyway. She’s the type that doesn’t raise her voice. She will insult you while keeping her voice low and tone level. She appreciates sarcasm. She will scare you. But when she loves you, she’ll leave you in no doubt that she does.

That’s it. That’s what I’m wearing right now. Writing these descriptions just made me realise I have an almost singular taste in fragrances. Leather, patchouli, sandalwood, spicy, woody, vanilla – those are my signature notes. It’s all very warm, sensual, a little mysterious even. Measured, very intentional, very understated in a sense. I have never gone wrong with some good wood.

Tell me, what does your favourite fragrance say about you? How does it make you feel? Drop me your answers in the comments section and you might just win a bottle of perfume from my favourites, my mainest fragrance plug, Cierra Perfumes. I’ve been buying perfume from them since discovering them on Instagram early in 2020 and they do not disappoint! Plus they’re the only ones who managed to get me both Tuxedo AND Cuir, which can be a bit challenging to find in my experience, without trying to rip me off or punish me for liking nice things. Check them out: highly recommend. Winner to be announced 4th September, 2021. Must be in Nairobi to be eligible to win.

Top tip: spray some perfume in your closet each week to keep it smelling good. I also like to douse cotton balls in a favourite scent and stick them in the corners of my drawers to keep my gym clothes and undies smelling expensive.

Oh, and if you’re looking for more informed fragrance reviews, check out (my fragrance bible) Fragrantica and Ms. Angel Lately – the High Priestess of the Pursuit of Pleasure.

I’m yet to find my favourite scent but I live for scents that are fresh, clean and light. That don’t make me feel sticky, like there’s a layer of something on me. My favourite scents make me feel warm and feel like the best surprise (like my scent is not loud but when you get close to me, you’re intrigued). I enjoy being told I smell good. My favourite scents make me feel like I’m imprinted on you when I hug you, but in a loving way, like I’ve left my mark which makes me feel good.

I use a cheapie, Secret by Rasasi. It’s very mysterious. On one hand it says, “I am here for a good time” with the top orange and peachy notes, after settling in, it says, “I am here for business” with the musk and sandalwood base. It’s the perfect perfume on a day I want to feel elegant.

My favorite perfume is Black Opium.
This perfume makes me feel like a legend okay to be honest, it makes me feel sexy and confident. I mean, passing by and someone looks behind to admire you cause of the perfume you’ve worn is the most outrageous feeling. It leaves a mark wherever I go(for real tho)
Makes me feel like I’m in control of things you know.

You are right about Angel lately being the perfume goddess, you can literally smell her post.
My favourite perfume has to be” Si”, it says you are smelling right and you feel right, exciting and ready to take off. I just love the air of confidence it broods….it’s a pinch of confidence to my soul.
Also, thank you for the cotton ball Pro tip.

Loved reading what you’re wearing. I enjoy amber, sandalwood-y, warm fragrance notes with a hint of floral. I do not like smelling like a flower garden or a sweet candy shop.
I want a fragrance that is feminine but also mysterious. The impression I love to leave is: you’ll know I’m here and remember that I was present after I leave but you’ll still ask who I am coz you couldn’t completely figure me out.

My pallet then morphed and I plunged into the bliss of wood, oud, spice, sexy, dominant woman. On my wish list is anything that smells like tom Ford tobacco vanille, black orchid and Moroccan Tuscan leather.

Thank you for this it was a much needed read on a Monday evening.

I love wearing this to when I’m going for meetings when I’m feeling a bit more “bossy”, but I also love wearing this on date nights because it makes me feel oh so sexy, but in a refined and sophisticated way. It’s Idole by Lancome. I (and again, coming from a complete fragrance novice) think it’s the perfect blend of a classy, yet floral scent! My current fav is an oldie but Goldie. Trèson- In Love by Lancôme. Have been seeing it for the last 5 years but have found myself wearing it more these days. I like it because it feels seasoned, it feels mature, it feels like soul that’s found it’s way back home and is very comfy. It’s a warm and slightly strong fragrance but that’s what I love most about it. 2020/2021 has been the pits and not because of the Rona. I’ve lost solid friendships I never thought I’d lose, but I’ve also grown so much into myself. WFH while being single at at some point forced me to really reevaluate a lot of things, to truly assess me as a person and not me as a title and I truly believe- my souls has found it’s way back home. Just like the warmth and comfort one gets when they get home after a long day and light a fire to relax with a glass of wine at hand…. You know that bliss and content? Yeah that’s what I feel every time I wear my fragrance. I feel content with whatever life is throwing my way

Hello. Being a shy person, I always make sure my scent leaves anyone I meet with something to say. But Truth be told,I haven’t found my true love. Still patiently waiting for him. But the men keeping me company still give. Top of the list is Valentino.
Valentino is the occasional fragrance that I reach for when in need of confidence. Entering into an office where you feel undervalued, sometimes you need a man who follows you, leaving behind a statement. Not chatter. He tends to be louder when it’s very chilly, everyone notices him then. He makes me feel beautiful, sexy and mysterious all at once. I forget about my insecurities. I know with him, I am noticed. And I need not say a word.

(Side note – i actually enjoy scrolling and reading through the descriptions on Cierra’s TL )

Favorite fragrance (at the moment because a girl can change her mind) is the Si Intense (black bottle). It honestly makes my heart beat with a different rhythm lol, I love wearing it on cooler weather and at night – it makes me feel warm. Love how it lingers. I also wear it on the days I have a meeting and want the sillage to introduce me.

Still planning to explore more perfumes (an investment that has to be budgeted for ).

I consider myself to be loyal in life generally except in this area because I’d love to build a collection of my own.

Been making it habit going to bed smelling like vanilla. It easy on my sinusitis and I won’t wake up feeling like a clogged pipe. Safe to say a couple of my bottles have notes of vanilla. However my favs are determined by occasion and moods… daytime we go fierce, evening we dive into sexy sultry and will balance between woody, vanilla, patchouli and warm spicy. I am inviting. I am warm. I can be feisty so don’t mess with me maybe only between the sheets (judge me less please but Lancôme Tres Nuit does thing with the other gender).

Haven’t copped a new bottle this year – looking forward to acquiring Tom Ford and Bottega Venetta. I keep walking into perfume stores and trying out different Tom Fords to find the one my skin agrees to – this is one versatile chap. Cierra come through for a girl!

I don’t know if I’m normal or what, but I love manly scents… They are a turn on to me… I love the woody, smokey, spicy scent with a heavy emphasis on it to bring out the masculinity. Smelling good brings confidence in someone. My favourite scent is the Tom Forde Tobacco Vanille, since I can’t afford one I still do the fill ups in cosmetics with manly scents. This giveaway can be of luck to me and my dream come true to not screenshotting perfumes and also my birthday is on 3rd September it can be a nice present for me. I hope to win this…..I love your posts and blogs….. I love your page

My favorite fragrance at the moment is white tea. I remember when I first purchased and smelt it on me, I thought, “I’d really like to hug myself!” Hence, my fragrance says I am a warm person. I never used to wear perfume around the house or during bedtime. Now I do because it makes me feel abit spoilt.

One note that I am opposed to is ROSE. It’s said that smell evokes memory and mine is repulsed by Rose. That said, I am drawn to fresh, clean soapy notes like the PRADA La Femme for everyday wear and salty, vanilla, tobacco notes when I need to drive up the Oomph. Is it weird that I love the smell of petrol especially when it’s being pumped straight into the car?

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to smell nice. So in campus because affording legit fragrance was impossible, I would buy the ‘perfume ya kupima’ on Moi Avenue. They have perfumes as low as KES 200. Shiro, No matter which fragrance you choose they all smell the same! Just a sharp choking smell.
I later graduated to getting whole bottles of fake One million. I would leave the house and half the population had bought the exact same fragrance.
Thank Jesus for persevering those times. I am hoping to build my own small collection with time. A current favorite is COCO MADEMOISELLE. I could be going through a rough day but smelling like luxury makes it a tad bit easier!

My favourite perfumes are still juvenile. My tastes are not. I come to manifest.

I do like a perfume that’s nuanced enough to make me feel different. Different like if they read my texts and uncovered my journals in a thousand years they’d say I was different. As strong, confident and
unbothered, sit-by-the-side and people-watch as I am and definitely feel on the good days and super femme, vulnerable, inner child as I am around the people who love me. It’s just never one way. It’s the extremes? And dare I say it takes two? With shameless confidence.

Your writing and your vibe on Insta is legit. Quiet, calm, confident, consistent. Goals.

My favorite at the moment is Dolce and gabbana the only one intense. My, this one has me swooped. The black bottle with gold detail is sexy but the juice is to die for. The opening is quite fresh but it dries down to this amazing soft, feminine, sensual and cozy fragrance. It says I’m feminine but not loud, it says I’m put together but still warm. I love it. It makes me feel elegant, effortless, warm by nature like I’m not trying too hard.

I love the woody patchouli, rosemary, lavender, cypress, and lentisk blend! My favorite scent is by Giorgio Armani, Acqua Di Gio. I got her as a gift from my husband’s work travels. She has brought out the best in me (my confidence booster) 🙂
Being a Virgo, please bless me with one from your selections. I will really appreciate it!

I’m big on scents… my dad exposed me to perfumes when I was merely in primary. But the one that has always stood out for me is baccarat rogue 540.
I tend to think that first comes the eye (impressing by how you look), then comes the nose (by how you smell) and then comes the ear (by how you present yourself through speech)…
Depending on where I’m going, what I’m going to do and the weather of the day, then I would choose what fits perfectly.
A sunny Sunday brunch would have me putting on a sundress and grab a floral and soft scent, while a serious business pitch would have me picking a fitting power suit and an oud type scent.

After being told on the morning of my birthday I had contracted Covid, and being in quarantine the whole of this month (Leo season!!! Of all the times) hehe, this would be a lovely pick me up as I reintegrate back to the flow of life…

Hi, I love love your blog and how your writing is very descriptive. My current fragrance is black opium, personally key things I look for in a fragrance is one with strong sillage, has longetivity and leaves a good impression.

Back when I was in school, my scents were mostly floral – I loved too feel very girly (I used to imagine floral scents were what spring smelt like). Now, as I grow into a young career lady, I love to feel like a soft but strong woman – a touch of boss but with a great feminine edge. Thiss is on my wishlist this year.

For as long as i can remember, I have always wanted to smell nice. So in campus, because affording legit fragrance was a dream i would buy the ‘perfume ya kupima’ on Moi Avenue. They have perfumes from as low as KES 200. Shiro, no matter which fragrance you choose they all smell the same! Just a sharp and choking smell.
I later graduated to getting whole bottles of fake One Million. I would leave the house and half the population had the exact same fragrance.
Thank Jesus for persevering those times. I am hoping to build my own small collection with time. A current favorite is Coco Mademoiselle. I could be going through a rough day but smelling like luxury makes it a tad bit easier!

Scent has always been a way for me to express my individuality in a concrete/tangible way. It’s also an accurate representation of whatever mood I’m in/would like to channel.
I enjoy fragrances with a presence; something that’s playful and cheeky yet still remains refined and exudes an element of mystery.
Currently loving Penhaligon’s Halfeti and Cairo fragrances immensely.
Luna is perfection for sweltering days and Halfeti Cedar for a Baltic evenings.

My favourite scent to date would probably have to be, Van Cleef and Arpels Midnight in Paris. It was given to me as a gift and only after some research did I find out that it was made for men! So I’m totally into unisex perfumes now. Unfortunately it got discontinued meaning I’ll probably never re-own it. However based on your descriptions, sounds like there’s a whole bunch more for me to discover. What that scent led me to realise, is that I’m actually a fan of warm, spicy, vanilla, leather-y fragrances.
What did it say about me? Hmm, that I am curious, bold, and can easily overpower, hehe. It made me feel, clean, fresh, but also strong, like I was taking up my rightful space. Looking forward to discovering more scents! (and calling one of your fragrances into my life, pick me! 🙂 This is the boldness I was talking about, lol)

For the recent cold weather I’d been wearing Girl of Now Shine by Elie Saab. It’s the deep Iris that really gets me. For me this is grown woman but girly at the same time. It could easily be a signature scent.
Also fragrantica is my frag Bible too. Karina Waldron on YouTube also has my heart. Very in-deoth and interesting reviews.
On my wish list to try, I really want Florabotannica by Balenciaga since the rumours of reformulation . If an arabian house , Shaghaf Oud by Swiss Arabian. Chiiile. I hope to win a frag.

I like how smelling nice crisp and fresh makes people turn heads and sometimes it just compliments a whole look and makes me feel good and confident. I enjoy how people even go to the extent of inquiring which Fragnance you are wearing. I too sometimes find myself asking the question. I get fancied having “your smell” and people who know you clearly tell that this is so and so who has passed or walked in is also a plus for me. I am currently using White tea by Elizabeth Ardens and once when making special appearances I steal Tuxedo from Mr. Man and Weh! just as you have detailed it I second that this specific one can make one melt in awe! I notice that almost all my fragrances have alternating base notes of sandalwood, leather, patchouli and dare I say it…pepper. All very apt for my personality and making me feel like a very delicate lady who knows her way around a couple deadly weapons ;-)…

I hope your little one is feeling better. If it’s any consolation, no matter how sick I’d get as a child, remembering how my mama would look after me feels like a hug that transcends time. Speaking of smells, it also reminds me how she’d burn frankincense and carom seeds to clear my sinuses and take away whatever lingering negativity she believed was thrown my way.
Six years ago was the height of my obsession with Black Opium. It unlocked a very visceral memory of the Dior Addict from the early 2000s within me, which I had absolutely fallen in love with when my mum sprayed it for the first time on a cold evening.
Cuir sounds exactly like me, and I’m so bummed I haven’t experienced it yet.
Again, I think this nose comes from a childhood overflowing by woody, earthy, spicy and mystical smells. Whether it’s the rain piercing through the mud, cinnamon and cloves being added to my tea, old dusty books, the leather seats in my father’s car or the powerful cleansing smoke of frankincense on charcoal.
    Strong makes me feel safe.

I would say my favorite fragrances says classic woman. Quite feminine. Simple yet complex. Not mature, not juvenile. Just the perfect balance. I am still on the hunt for a signature scent though, but also trying to divorce myself from the idea of a “signature scent”, there is simply too much out there to commit to one. So I experiment a lot.
Like you I desire to be a Tom Ford woman, but for some reason it just doesn’t sit on me the way it does on others. TF Screams power to me, CEO! Boss! The one Tom Ford that is on my wishlist is the Metallique, it smells decadent and the packaging is always

I know I’d love Chloé Nomade, I’ve been looking for where to sample it. Chloé is what I reach out for almost everyday, it’s so sexy in the most subtle way, sits so well on my skin, I always get compliments wearing it, and it’s like a big comforting hug to me, especially on cold days.

I once had a perfume called Monaco Eau De Parfum and it had this richness and heaviness that I loved. It made me feel like “lady walking into the room causing pin drop silence”. I don’t have experience with many perfumes but I want to have a collection.
I had MarryMe by Lanvin but it was more of a go-for-brunch type of fragrance than an every day fragrance.
I’m a 23yr old who desires a perfume that complements my personality. How you describe your fragrances makes me desire that even more.

I always love being described as the lady who smells divine. My sister says I love perfumes in dark bottles…which I think symbolizes sexiness ‍♀️. My show stoppers, as I’ve come to note (no pun intended), have a amber/oriental, slight musk and vanilla notes and are Addict by Dior, Jasmine Noir by Bvlgari and My Burberry Black

If @cierra perfumes are reading this, they definitely know that the first time I made an order I was so suprised to hear a man’s voice. Well, Im the type of person who doesn’t tie herself to one scent. I literally explore…experiment varities and keep the empty bottles as a reminder of how the scent made me feel and let it excites my olfactory cells once again. Top of my tier however will be Gucci Bloom…the scent brings about the memory of taking a stroll in a flower garden and having the jasmine flowers calling you out by your name and you having no choice but to obey and enjoy the fragrance.

Bold, provocative, audacious, rich, classy and yummy – That is what I’m looking for in a fragrance.
Sexy, bossy, provocative, audacious, classy and yummy type of scent – That what I look for in a fragrance.
A girl is graduating from Uni this month and would love to smell incredible on that day(enters Cierra Perfumes haha).

It scent just blooms more as you wear it through your the day, I’ve never missed one compliment when wearing this fragrance. It makes me feel alive and seen. I love fragrances with a hint of vanilla. My favourite fragrance thus far has to be Nuit Noor by Ellie Saab which is warm and spicy & has one of my best notes (patchouli). This fragrance says I am a confident, bold woman who knows exactly what she wants and does not shy away from getting exactly that as it oozes power and sensuality. Even with small doses you cannot afford to not notice Nuit Noor(in a good way).

I’m really not sure what my favourite scent is, I tend to use scents depending on what I need to achieve in a day. In various seasons of life, my scents change too depending on what I’m feeling.
In this season I each out for my The One by Dolce and Gabbana for the days I need to kick ass in the boardroom, Heat by Beyonce for my market runs (because it does well in both the cold and hot weather), Black Orchid by TF when I need to make more than a statement, Privee by Caroline Herrera on for my day dates and lastly good old Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel for my wear to bed fragrance.

Nomade by Chloé is the one I reach out to on most “normal” days.

I’m more into woody scents than the florals and fruity ones.

I’m a perfumeholic. On nights when I can’t sleep, I browse through perfume shops, clicking on each bottle as I imagine how it smells and see myself walking through the aisles trying the scents out.

My dreamy engagement is set in a perfume shop, him having swiped his card to pay for 12 bottles of perfume, one for every month of our first year of marriage

I’ve come a long way with my perfume collection from buying off-the-shelf perfume at the supermarket aisle to collecting scents that speak to my personality. Currently I’m obsessing over the Only One by Dolce Gabbana, . From its woody scent, to allowing me to be more confident and calm when wearing it. She is a known-it-all lady that is ready to brave the storms that come her way. Can’t wait to add more scents to my collection.

I fell in love with perfumes the moment I bought my first Elizabeth Arden (White Tea) from Cierra Perumes, I realized that being told that I smell good trumps being told I’m beautiful any day!!! That is one of my favorite kinds of compliments. I am on a journey to finding my signature scent and so far I tend to gravitate towards sweet and flowery scents for some reason…and what does that say about me? I believe it shows that there’s an element of sophistication and class in me that I had no idea existed! Makes me think of an old lady in her 60s at high tea, oozing opulence, sipping tea with her equally rich girlfriends at Hemingways . They will probably define my 20s one day….What I’d love to try, however, is Tuxedo, only because I trust Shiru’s taste in perfumes and you have to try different fragrances before you settle for one.

I smelled Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille at the airport recently and I can’t get it out of my head! I am spending a lot of my time plotting how I shall purchase a bottle, it smells how I want to smell forever: a layered sweetness that’s so much more. Like the kind of person you dismiss as one thing, but get stunned by their nuance. Oh, I can dream. To answer your question, though, my current favourite is Rose Musc by Narciso Rodriguez. It’s rosy, spicy and a whole lot musky. It makes me feel grown, like I have everything together, not a hair out of place. It’s kind of obnoxious, and unapologetic. I hope it says, “I am here, and I shall suffer no fools”

Good Girl by Carolina Herrera entered the chat followed by my best buy to date ….Because it’s you by Emporio Armani… I got complimented constantly. Current wishlist is Idole L’Intense by Lancome… I got a tester from Cierra Perfumes once and let me tell you… she does what she was meant to do. At first I wasn’t too sure if it was a unisex perfume as it has notes of Leather and wood that were a bit ‘masculine’ but as the scent settled in after the application i could feel the notes lift up. It’s not an in your face scent but it definitely commands someone’s attention has you hug them and what i love most about it is how it completely puts me in a good mood — it gives me hella confidence compared to the more fruity scents i have been used to before.

I am simply In love with Roberto Cavalli Nero Assoluto Eau de Parfum.
It is one of my top 10 fragrances of all time! It’s a unique and complex fragrance – rich in top notes of orchid and citrus and the base notes are ebony and woody which gives it a real depth and earthiness. It evokes so many memories for me. Not only does it link to my birthplace, it also ties to the city I spent my early childhood in with my mum.  She has always been one of the strongest women I know. She’s my ultimate role model. When she was pregnant with me, she was running her own business with five young kids which is pretty badass! She has always been my mentor when I needed her, and she has constantly inspired me to reach for the stars and go after my own dreams. Whenever I smell it, it takes me back and I feel as if my mum is in the room – it is amazing how quickly a scent can transport you. Strong, classy, influential and beautiful – this is what Nero assoluto makes me think of the second I smell it.  It’s one I still wear. A spritz of this perfume gives me the confidence boost I need when I’m feeling a little low.

My daughter has also been on an almost month long flu -worst she’s ever had and despite antibiotics/coughsyrups it just wasn’t going away!! It was a struggle but the doctor mentioned it could be caused by weather changes . She’s well now though ,I thank God . Happy weekend Gaitho .❤️

Just began my perfume journey and find myself gravitating towards warm comforting sensual gourmand perfumes.Currently using Ellie Saab Girl of Now .This perfume is beautiful, it was love at first sniff for me. It opens with some fruity notes and dries down to patchouli and almond.Makes me feel feminine and classy. They say finding your signature scent as a lady requires nothing but patience and as I grow older and for some reason would love to try out other scents and would be a pleasure to discover and walk the perfume journey with Cierra Perfumes.

Woody-vanilla scents always give me an “add a little spice” moment and that’s the only way to start a day if you ask me. An absolute confidence booster that we all need and deserve. Plus, who doesn’t love the ultimate “you smell good” complement? Not me! Put together. Spicy. Perfection. And dare I say sensual. I’ve been in love with Si from Giorgio Armani for the longest time and more importantly, the perfume loves me back!

As I was going back and forth trying to check the comment section progress…I realized that I couldn’t find the comment that I had posted but then again, it’s another chance to share the perfume vibes. But before then, why is it that our siblings and friends use our most expensive perfume like the world is coming to an end? Kuspray Fuuuufuuuuuufuuuuufuuu. Yet, they use theirs like their lives depend on it .
That aside, my favorite scent among the many favorites has to be the Gucci Bloom. The jasmine notes brings about the memory of a stroll in a flower garden.
But before I finish, who else was surprised to make an order with @cierra perfumes and had the phone answered by a very kind gentleman?? .

Love the blog post Ciru. Your taste is delectable . I hope Gong is feeling better now.
I bought my very first fragrance a few months ago, Chloé Nomade EDP, after months of research and smell tests. And I absolutely love it. I can’t describe the notes to save my life, but it gives me grown girl vibes, a little feisty, a little rebellious but with a solid head on her shoulders. Currently dying to get Givenchy L’Interdit, I have a fragrance card in my work bag and in the midst of a rough day I go smell it and remind myself I deserve nice things and it helps me get through the day lol. Because we all deserve nice things.

My current favorite perfume at the moment is Idole Lancome. It makes me feel Sophisticated yet unapologetically modern. It’s fresh and floral. Bursts with notes of citrus, rose, jasmine, and white musk and is layered over a vanilla perfume base. I’m currently eyeing Coco Chanel Mademoiselle. It would be an honour to get it from Cierra Perfumes. As always, it has been a lovely read.

My go to fragrance is Olympea by Paco Rabanne. Its a heady floral scent, very gorgeous, has me all feminine, sensual, and gets the compliments. I feel like a vanilla salted caramel desert when I wear it, yet all grown and sexy, I would love to try the Olympea blossom.
But top of my head for perfumes to try is Delina by Perfumes de Marly. I got a sample size once, and it had this plush, complex floral. The rose had me all ultra feminine, feeling sexy. It lasted so long and the compliments were all over. Very appealing scent and I felt delicious, like a creamy velvety snack. Also a great quality floral. A unique sent with great reviews and outstanding scent.

Oh my! Should I be alarmed that in my late twenties now, I still don’t have a signature scent? could this be what Shiro calls the “basic bitch” tag? I get so overwhelmed when choosing scents that I always end up picking something that someone else thinks would smell nice on me or a scent that has been hyped just to cut the chase. It also doesn’t help with the “lack of facilities” so the options are really limited but that would be a shameless excuse. From your description, Cuir, by Yves Saint Laurent is my fighter. she sounds to me like that stranger girl who will spot you struggling with a bad date and come straight on and bail you out. That is how I’d like a scent to make me feel. Now onto doing the work of finding me MY scent!

the funny thing about scent is that it not only brings out emotions but also memories… My current fav perfume and frequent repurchase is the Marc Jacobs Daisy Love followed by Crystal Noir. Its soft woody notes paired with its apparent fruity notes have a way of just shocking you in a meeting or those random moments you just smell yourself. It’s funny how scent can make you feel attractive (Sexy) and loved, my partner told me once that my scent brings out my fun side with a hint of sophistication.. as much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with the guy. Being a petite human, I tend to always have my guard up so I feel like I need to express myself through my accessories that’s why I gravitate to that particular scent. Its very cheery yet subtle but not understated.

I love fragrances with fresh powdery scents. Currently, my favourite fragrance is Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme. I think it speaks for me before I open my mouth, talking about how I love a nice squeaky clean environment, sunny days, happy times, a weekend afternoon spent with family enjoying good food, listening to relaxing music as the kids play outside, riding their scooters & painting. *sigh* It’s a feel-good scent & I’m all about feel-good vibes. Simply put, they spark joy.

You know how as you settle into your 30’s, you slowly but surely learn to let go of your insecurities….. you are more kind to yourself, your soul feels like home. You have a calming sense of knowing that you don’t have all the answers today, and that’s okay. You seek progress o we perfection. You’re gentle but warm and give loving hugs…. Yeah. That’s how I feel when I wear the Estée Lauder – modern muse Le Rogue. She feels warm and content, yet sexy as hell!!! Yeah. That’s among my top 5 scents.

I think the compliment smelling nice has to be one a highlight for anyone regardless. I would lean more on the Bottega Veneta cologne as it has this long lasting woody quality but also notes of grapefruit and orange which are still very distinct. This combination brings a sexy and spicy feel yet not overpowering making it perfect for all occasions.

My favorite, and now signature scent is Aventus for Her by Creed. Smells like money. Like a boss making million dollar deals. It makes me feel confident, poised, like I have arrived, when I wear it, I feel like the main character, no, I AM THE MAIN CHARACTER, basically, it’s the Sheila Show and everyone around me is a supporting actor. When I first got it, I used to use it sparingly on account of how expensive it is. But let me tell you, after experiencing a global pandemic and surviving two near death experiences (stories for another day ) it is now my most worn scent and I have no regrets over how fast I’ve gone through it… because I’ve come to learn to savour every moment like it’s my last!

Fragrance for me is something that says what I’m feeling, what I’m doing, my mood, a memory I want to evoke etc even as I ‘dress’ for the weather and occasion obviously.
My favorites are Hypnotic poison by Dior for when I feel like understated elegance and presence that is not overbearing, like I’m trying too hard. Its non threatening sweetness is pretty without being cloying or juvenile. But when I want to impress, make a statement and smell like money, then I reach for Dior addict. If you know, you know.
I have several faves and if I was to list them here I’d go on and on
While smell is like a word to many people, fragrance is definitely like literature to me.
