FAVOURITE THINGS: INTERIOR STYLING GENIUSES

So I’ve been experiencing something akin to writer’s block lately. I want to write, but I have no clue what to write about, and when I think of something I want to write about, I can’t actually write anything worth posting, so I give up and pray to the gods of inspiration to come through for me. It’s the same thing that happened a few years ago and that time, I stopped writing. Every time someone would ask me why I stopped, I’d say I was really busy (I wasn’t), my job was a bit delicate at the moment (it wasn’t), I wanted to create a proper blog (there was nothing fundamentally wrong with my simple blogspot one) or my favourite: one of my bosses stumbled upon my blog and told me, and now I’m scared to bare my soul lest I’m judged or lose my job.

But I’ve purposed to be better this year (new year better me, right?). Which is why I turned to IG for some inspiration recently. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with interiors. I read at least one article a day and spend countless minutes browsing through various sites and pages for inspiration, especially now that I’m looking to do up Gong’s room. I spend an inordinate amount of time staring at the walls and planning where to hang her prints, and stick the gold polka dot wall decals I got. And I just got the cutest little bunnies for the shelf that remains in my head.

So, if you’re like me, and think the best way to spend your time is looking at how the brilliant creatives of this world are turning basic spaces into homes and offices you want to live in forever, read through for some of my faves!

Home Polish

This is definitely my go to page on IG. I love them for so many different reasons, top being that they encourage me to work hard, make that coin and invest in my space, their designers cover different styles: luxe, boho chic, industrial and everything in between, and their home tours are E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. I don’t think their work is for people on very tight budgets, going by the prices of the pieces they feature, but they definitely make you aspire to interior décor greatness.

Apartment Therapy

Apart from beautiful pictures, I love that they share things that make me think: I can do that; I can create a nice space without busting my budget. Check out their website and look out for their DIY hacks. It’s a treasure trove for new enthusiasts like me! Also, I’ve been reading up on mid-century modern, which is a trend that refuses to go away (the skinny jeans of interior décor they say); and which you can easily introduce into your home since some pieces are readily available locally.

Design Love Fest

I just started following her the other day and I keep swooning over her feed. Just this morning I was looking at her furniture collab with Target and now I wonder why we don’t have places like that, IKEA, HomeGoods and H&M to quench our thirst for affordable, pretty things. If anyone reading this is a decision-maker or is able to influence aforementioned brands, please convince them to come set up shop in Kenya: I’m willing to give them all my money every month! OK maybe not all because I have diapers and formula to buy, but whatever little is left after that LOL. Also, if you like free stuff, she has cute, quirky desktop wallpaper designs you can download for free. Check out her website for all sorts of pretty things, and DIY!

FoxyOxie

She’s a new mom, she responds to my fan girl DMs, and she has the prettiest little nursery for her baby girl. Plus she has a thing for neutrals (mostly greys and whites) and keeping things simple, so you know she speaks my language, and her One Room Challenge tours are super inspiring.

The Home Edit

I’m a little OCD. I love having everything in its place and will know if you touched my stuff. That’s why I spend a few minutes each evening straightening the tassels on my carpet and stacking the coasters so the edges are all aligned. These girls are have the level of OCD I aspire to reach, and are inspiring me to do something about my pantry.

Design Devotee

Because of her, I reupholstered My Lover’s bachelor love seat. It was once dark blue. It’s now pink and in Gong’s room. ‘nuf said.

The Beautiful Savages

This. Woman. Is. Monochrome. Goals. My black and white walls are because of her, though I went a little bolder than I’d planned. No regrets through. Also, she painted her floor and now I want to paint my floor. Anyone know where I can get floor paint? I fail to understand why my balcony has pink bathroom tiles. They’re so gross, ugh!

Mrs. Lilli

Again with the monochrome and clean Scandi lines. Her space is just so organized, and it has this boss-lady-grown-woman-killing-it-in-this-life vibe like she’s not trying to impress anybody. And she uses lots of candles. I love candles.

Mr. Kate

This very dynamic duo gives me all the feels! I love the creativity and energy they exude on their vlog. They really make me want to get into the whole DIY thing (all I’ve managed so far is to spray paint a few things around the house). Maybe 2018 is the year I become a DIY queen, starting with Gong’s wall J Plus they have this OMG We’re Coming Over Segment, where they go and transform digital influencers’ spaces into your life goals. I want them to be my friends!

Live Your Style

She got me with her “How To Make Your Home Look Expensive On A Budget” vlog. Every time I hear “expensive” and “budget” in the same sentence I’m interested, because who doesn’t want to look expensive without actually being expensive? Hello! Plus I’m all about stretching that coin these days because a) babies are expensive, and b) momma still needs nice things.

What are you reading, watching? Are you revamping your space this year? Tell me all about it, I’d love to connect with fellow enthusiasts.

Sharing is caring, XO!

These are great recommendations. I’m currently obsessed with Malcolm’s blog design69 – mostly because he draws like I dream of drawing, lol. He’s also great at designing spaces on a budget that look top of the range.

Love the recommendations that you have outlined for us. I am obsessed with interior design but I am still at that stage you described in your article “Monochrome madness- welcome to my space” Even though I have moved out, my days are spent on Pinterest creating boards of what my style will be when I move out before the end of the year.
Some of the designers that I am obsessed with Mr Kate, I don’t think that is an episode I haven’t watched. Like you, I love their OMG, we coming over segment. I am in love with apartment Therapy and live your style. You can also check out her mother on youtube at Robeson designs. Designs by Tresha is also good if you are into DIY. she makes dope stuff. On IG check out Farahjmerhi she started her line called Inspire me home decor.

You have some of my favourites on your list(Mr. Kate is juts the bees knees!) and new ones I need to check out too! I will definitely check out live your style because of your becauses (sic) lol! I also like @amber interiors and have an obsessive hair for Joanna Gaines and the Fixer Upper brand-probably where my shabby chic love was solemnised, lol! @jesselauzon not just for what he collects (a lot of vintage pieces) but his captions on his posts are hilarious! Now to ‘making good use of my time’.
    Have a fab week/month!
